Abstract
Mergers, acquisitions, strategic alliances, and joint ventures, which are extensively preferred forms of partnership in recent years, have become structures that can affect domestic and international competition. Mergers with their unique characteristics require a range of variables to be considered both from micro and from macroeconomic levels of analysis. While mergers alter the structure, management style and vision of the firms, they also influence the national economy on the industrial basis.
This study aims to evaluate mergers in terms of criteria such as raw material, capital, technology and product development, human resources, gaining competitive advantage, entering new markets, growth, cost control, risk management, economical stability and crises management in a developing economy. Initially the evaluation will be made by investigating the examples of mergers both in Turkey and in foreign countries through literature review. Consecutively, the Turkish economy, which is primarily based on small and medium sized enterprises, will be analyzed in terms of the aforementioned criteria. Finally, suggestions will be provided on the firm level in light of the information obtained as a result of the analysis made.
