Intertemporal Change of the Sectoral Structure in Turkey
Nikolaos Adamou (Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, Greece)
Abstract
The structure of the Turkish economy interms of sectoral independence given by input ouput matrices and its change, is the focal point of this paper. One way to analyze such interdependence is by examining the principal minors of the system, known as Simon-Hawkins stability conditions. The above conditions are examined here in terms of the economic meaning of the trace, the minor determinants as they are expressed in terms of the relationship among the eigenvalues of the system. The examination of the polynomial equation indicates whether its eigenvalues are distinct and real, repeated and real, or conjugate complex. Eigenvalues & the characteristic polynomial provide the means by which this paper is using in evaluating the intertemporal structure of the Turkish economy and its change from 1973 to 1990, based on four input-output tables. Symmetric matrices, providing distinct and real eigenvalues, of direct intra industry and indirect intra-industry transactions are compared with the Wong AAT matrix in terms of the provided structural information.
